In a mining jurisdiction that has produced over 80 million ounces of gold in the last 120 years, very few companies can credibly claim to be exploring “virgin ground.” Kirkland Lake Discoveries Corp. (TSX-V: KLDC, OTC: KLKLF) is one of them.
CEO Stefan Sklepowicz gave an update that underscored why the company has become one of the most closely watched junior explorers in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Since the last interview in late August, KLDC has delivered high-grade copper intercepts, made a brand-new blind gold discovery in syenite, closed an oversubscribed C$12+ million financing, and mobilized drills for an aggressive 25,000-metre winter program.
The September–October 2025 maiden 1,700-metre program was designed primarily to test geophysical and soil anomalies around the Winnie Pluton on the company’s 40,000-hectare land package in the Kirkland Lake camp.
Key intercepts included:
High-Grade Copper Sulphides from Surface
31.38 m of 1.22% CuEq from 14.62 m, including 5.02 m of 3.31% CuEq (KLD25-35)
36.5 m of 1.03% CuEq from 13.5 m, including 8.3 m of 2.18% CuEq (KLD25-34)
27.35 m of 1.27% CuEq from 13.9 m, including 8.2 m of 2.65% CuEq (KLD25-28)
32.8 m of 0.93% CuEq from 14.2 m, including 4.7 m of 4.02% CuEq (KLD25-36)
New Gold and Critical Minerals Discovery
First-ever discovery of gold-bearing syenite within the Winnie Pluton, associated with critical elements Cu-Ag-Te-Bi-Mo, confirming a new style of mineralization for the district.
While the copper grades and widths are excellent for a first pass, Sklepowicz emphasized that the real excitement came from two blind holes drilled two kilometres away from the Winnie copper zone that intersected gold mineralization inside syenite (the late-phase intrusive).
“Those were blind tests based only on soil geochemistry and geophysics… and we hit gold. That means the system is endowed both inside and outside the intrusion. It basically doubled our prospectivity along the entire 17-kilometre strike we originally modelled.”
Geologically, this is a game-changer:
Sklepowicz summed it up succinctly: “We now have two completely different targeting models over the same footprint. That’s why this discovery is massively understated so far.”
As of mid-November 2025, the first diamond drill is on site and expected to spud within days. A second rig arrives immediately after the Christmas break, and both will run flat-out until spring breakup (late March/April).
Top-priority targets for the first phase:
All three targets sit within the Winnie–KL West intrusive complex, an area that represents less than 30 % (roughly 10–15,000 hectares) of KLDC’s total 40,000-hectare land package. In other words, 70 %+ of the property remains essentially untested at depth.
| Factor | Kirkland Lake Discoveries | Typical Kirkland Lake Junior |
| Land package size | 40,000 ha – largest in the camp | Usually <5,000 ha |
| Proximity to infrastructure | Borders Agnico Eagle’s northern property; 5 km from Macassa mill, 2 km from Upper Beaver; power lines and forestry roads criss-cross property | Often remote or brownfield |
| Exploration maturity | Mostly glacial till cover; virtually no historic drilling beneath cover | Heavily drilled brownfield |
| Modern targeting tools | Extensive soil geochem, high-resolution magnetics, MT geophysics, AI targeting | Usually legacy data only |
| Cash position (Nov 2025) | ~C$12 million working capital – fully funded for 25,000 m+ | Most peers still looking for money |
Sklepowicz noted: “We’re exploring virgin ground with modern techniques in one of the richest gold camps on Earth, five kilometres from a mill, touching a major’s border. No one else has this combination.”
Closed in October 2025 as a non-brokered private placement, the raise was heavily supported by:
Notably, the share price rose after the financing closed – a rare event that signals the placement was priced fairly and the market wanted in.
The capital removes funding risk entirely and allows KLDC to shift from cautious, single-rig exploration to an aggressive, multi-rig discovery push while building out the technical and corporate team (new VP Exploration Ben Cleland, additional geologists, dedicated videographer, etc.).
One of the most innovative shareholder-engagement tools in the junior space, the company’s YouTube-style “Treasure Hunter” video series will be significantly upgraded for 2026:
Sklepowicz believes transparent, educational video content was a major reason investors backed the recent financing so enthusiastically.
Stefan Sklepowicz remains unequivocally bullish:
His conclusion: “The next 6–18 months could be the last time investors can buy quality junior explorers at pennies-on-the-dollar before the sector re-rating becomes violent.”
Final Takeaway
Kirkland Lake Discoveries enters the 2025/26 winter drill season with:
In a bull market where new ounces are increasingly hard to find, companies that control district-scale, underexplored ground next door to operating mills tend to attract attention very quickly.
The drills are turning. The next six months should be loud.
